What’s in October’s Glossybox?

It’s that time again!

October’s Theme is the SIX PACK, as there’s a 6th bonus product to celebrate 6 glorious months of Glossybox – can you believe this is the 6th Glossybox already?

When I saw names like Stila and Dermalogica on the card I was very excited…

Dermalogica Age Smart Multi Vitamin Thermafoliant 15ml A powerful thermal skin polisher that combines physical and chemical exfoliants. A full, 75ml bottle costs £40.50, therefore a 15ml equivalent is worth £8.10.

Dermalogica Age Smart Multi Vitamin Power Recover Masque 15ml. A full 70 ml bottle retails for £33, equivilant 15ml worth £7.07 A powerful masque of concentrated antioxidant vitamins to help skin recover and regenerate.

Leighton Denny Expert Nails Colour & Care Nail Polish 12ml Leighton Denny Nail colour in Hanky Panky, a true orange shade. I love nail polish and was very excited to see Leighton Denny’s name on the card, but I’m a little disappointed at the shade. I have orange nail polish and don’t find it very wearable. I tested it on one nail, the quality is very good and the colour very opaque, no need for three coats with this one. I would have been happier with the baby pink or blue though. Full size product worth £11.

Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeline in Moray Another full size product, worth £13. I love Stila and have high hopes for this little stick. A lovely olive shade with golden flecks – can’t wait to try it.

Robert Piguet Eau de Parfums Fracas de Robert Piquet, Visa de Robert Piguet and Calypso de Robert Piguet are three signature scents from the ‘most Parisian of fashion designers’.

And the sixth, bonus gift Dermalogica Renewal Lip Complex 1ml with a handy little bag to keep all your new Dermalogica gifts safe. A daily treatment that restores the delicate lip tissue. Full size 1.75ml product retails for £22.50, so this mini version is worth £12.85

I think this is a really good box – a perfect mix of make up, skin care and fragrance. I’m very excited to try the Dermalogica products and the Stila liner, and as ever, I’ll let you know my thoughts.

Olivia Palermo Launches Her Style Blog

Get ready to hyperventilate … My ultimate style and beauty crush, Olivia Palermo has launched her much anticipated style blog this week.

Great news if you’re OP obsessed, like me! Now you can find out EXACTLY how to steal her style – thanks to her brand new blog where she explains her outfits in detail and reveals where she shops! And it’s not all out-of-your-league designer stuff either. OP is a big fan of the high street, particularly the British one!

Check out the blog here and if that’s not enough to feed your obsession, sign up to her new newsletter.

LOOK Beauty Collection

Another new kid on the block! LOOK Magazine announced last week that they are launching their first beauty range. I think this is a brilliant idea and I’m surprised someone hasn’t beaten them to it. I picked up a few samples at the show last month and wanted to share my pics, and thoughts.

It’s a pretty comprehensive range with everything you’d expect – foundations, primers, blushers and more. For me the stand out product is the Double Hit Lip – lipstick at one end and gloss at the other. The shade I received is an orangey coral, which looks quite scary but is actually quite sheer.

The texture of the lipstick is nice, more like a balm and the lipgloss smells divine. These were used to achieve the very on trend bold pouts at the recent LOOK catwalk show (see the pics here). I’d be keen to try the red for a buildable crimson pout, with optional gloss finish.

As for the Statement Eyes shadows £4 each, again, not the best shades for me, but the textures are nice. Quite silky and satin-like.

I’d like to try their metallic shades – Lame and Luxe were used on the models in the show.

Other stand out products include the Ooomph Lashes mascara £7 and Holiday Glow highlighting Powder £8.

Available exclusively in Superdrug stores later this month. A donation from every product sold goes to cancer support charity Look Good… Feel Better.

Beauty Crush – Olivia Palermo

Long since been one of my style crushes, she’s fast becoming a beauty crush too. It’s easy to get distracted by her enviable style, glossy hair and super long pins, but Ms Palermo’s got it going on in the make up stakes too!

Pictured here at the Green Auction in New York yesterday with lightly smoked eyes, rose coral lips and cheeks.

What’s more she rocks long hair, short hair, blonde or brunette, I don’t know whether to LOVE her or HATE her!

Brown eyes, mega lashes and pretty pink lips

And the Bronzed Goddess

Jealous me? Hell yeah!

LOOK Loot

I forgot to share with you the wonderful goodie bag I received at the LOOK fashion show…. it was crammed full of fashion, beauty and confectionary treats.

Treats included Make Believe Night Time Self Tan, Palmers Cocoa Butter, Label M Curl Spray and Next perfume.

Make up treats included an eye shadow and double ended lip product from the upcoming LOOK Magazine range and a Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm.

A very cute H&M scarf and some Monsoon bangles.

Plus the latest LOOK Magazine, of course, discount vouchers, a Miss Selfridges gift card and chocolates and evian that didn’t make the journey home!

Thank you LOOK!

Latest In Beauty

I just can’t keep up. First Glossybox, then Boudoir Prive and now Latest in Beauty – the new kid on the block in the ever growing list of beauty subscription services. In case you’ve been in outer space, for a monthly payment you receive beauty products delivered directly to your.

Everyone has an opinion on Glossybox, for me the jury’s still out, but for now I’m sticking with my subscription. I considered Boudoir Prive but decided to give it a miss on the grounds it’s too specalised and concentrates primarily on high end skincare, whereas Glossybox mixes it up with make up, skincare and hair products.

Glossybox and Boudoir Prive operate on a fixed £10 per month (plus postage) cost. What’s unique about Latest In Beauty is you can tailor your subscrption depending on your budget. For just £1 per month you’ll receive 3 sachet samples or for £4.95 per month you can sign up to the “Beauty Insiders Choice Winners” sample box worth £20.

You can choose monthly boxes, bi monthly boxes and themed boxes. Sounds good? Find out more here. Anyone tried it? I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Duty Free Treats

I thought I’d share with you the duty free treats I picked up in the airport last week.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Essentials

I bought this one whim – partly because I was caught up in the holiday spirit and partly because every girl should own this kit, and some boys too 😉 I make no secret of the fact  I’m a lifelong lover of Elizabeth Arden’s Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant, but I’ve never explored the range further… until now.

This pack contains the following products:

  • Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream Skin Protectant – 30ml
  • Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Intensive Moisturising Hand Treatment – 50ml
  • Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Lip Protectant Stick – 3.7g

I fancied the lip protectant as I use the original cream on my lips all the time, so it made sense to have a handy little bullet that’s more user friendly, plus this one has an SPF 15, making it an ideal holiday companion. I wasn’t disappointed – it looks and feels like the regular version, it’s super moisturising and surprisingly didn’t melt in the heat. Now the hand cream, this was a real surprise, it’s one of the best hand creams I’ve used. Incredibly thick, rich and moisturising – Looks like I’ve added another two products to my “can’t live without” list.

Duty Free Price £22 – contents worth over £50

Lancôme Doll Eyes Mascara

I won’t say too much about Doll Eyes right now as I’m planning a full review and some comparisons to other mascaras, but I will say it’s fab and as you can see some the photos, so are the results. It worked well in the heat and humidity too.

Duty Free Price £17.45

LUST HAVE: Chanel’s Le Vernis Colour Illusions

It’s a while since I’ve done a lust have, but Chanel’s new Colour Illusions nail polish range is certainly lust worthy. There’s lots of buzz about these limited edition nail polishes and I can see why. These gorgeously shimmering and iridescent polished form part of Chanel’s Autumn 2011 line and are right on trend. AW 2011’s nails have a space age feel – shades of pewter, bronze, silver… basically anything earthy and metallic.

Available in three multi faceted and striking shades

QUARTZ  silvery taupe

GRAPHITE metallic gun metal grey

PERIDOT antiquue golden green

Unfortunately, at £17.50 they might have to remain a lust have, but watch out for copy cats popping up all over the high street.

July’s GlossyBox has arrived…..

And I’m initially disappointed!

The concept I love (read more about GlossyBox)

The excitement and anticipation I love

The packaging I love

But the products…

Not so much?!?!

Ciate Nail Enamel (13.5ml RRP £9)

Illamasqua Powdered Metal in Ether (15g RRP £22)

Orla Kiely Eau de Parfum (5ml sample)

Ultra Sun Face SPF (15ml sample)

Weleda Pmegranate Body Oil (100ml RRP £19.50)

I’m not going to let my initial disappointment cloud my judgement. A full review of the products and service will follow, let’s just say my expectations haven’t been fulfilled.

I would have been really happy with the Ciate nail enamel – but Shrek green aint my style

I realise at face value this looks like a lot of products for £10 – but it’s only worth it if they’re products you’ll actually use.

Whatsmore – such is the power of the beauty blog, a quick search and you can find out what other people received in their box = GlossyBox envy. Variations on the products this month includes Xen-Tan self tanning product, False Eyelashes and Illamasqua Lipgloss – all of which I would have been very happy with, oh and Ciate Nail colours that are much more wearable than SHREK GREEN!

Perhaps we can start a GlossyBox swap service?
