Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipstick Shade 08

I liked shade 5 sooo much (read the review here) that I bought another.

Shade 8 – I’m still really annoyed that they didn’t come up with sexier names like Mossy Mauve – is a muted pink. I went to a ball at the weekend sporting plum smoky eyes. I didn’t want to clash with bold lips so opted for this soft pink and it worked really well.

As with shade 5, it’s soft, moisturising and velvetty. It’s long lasting and smells gorgeous.

Shades 1,2,3,4,5,8,12

At £5.49 they represent really great value and are now available, 3 for 2, at both Boots and Superdrug stores in the UK.

Beauty Crush – Olivia Palermo

Long since been one of my style crushes, she’s fast becoming a beauty crush too. It’s easy to get distracted by her enviable style, glossy hair and super long pins, but Ms Palermo’s got it going on in the make up stakes too!

Pictured here at the Green Auction in New York yesterday with lightly smoked eyes, rose coral lips and cheeks.

What’s more she rocks long hair, short hair, blonde or brunette, I don’t know whether to LOVE her or HATE her!

You need to know about… FashionistA Cosmetics

It’s hard to keep up with all the new make up brands hitting the high street. We’ve had Sleek, MUA, Accessorize, VIVO, the upcoming LOOK magazine cosmetics and the much anticipated, not to be missed FashionistA Range.

FashionistA cosmetics, launch in Superdrug at the end of September, include everything you’d expect from a good high street brand, and more. Their stand out products are the Custom Design Palettes, which are empty palettes that you can fill with a mixture of 4 eye shadows or blushers (Frontcover do something similar, which I love but theirs are limited to eyeshadows). With a huge 49 eye shadows and 12 blushers to choose from, you can really design a palette that suits you. Set to retail for £12 for the palette and 4 shadows/blushers.

And if that wasn’t enough, they also have the Magnetism nail polish range with The Saturdays coming out at the end of October.

Each Saturday has their own shade and will retail for a reasonable £6 for the polish and £3 for the magnet. Frankie’s is a silver shade, Mollie’s is a metallic pinky purple, Rochelle’s is a metallic red, Una’s is a metallic forest green and Vanessa’s is a sort of smoky metallic grey magnetic polish.

The LOOK Show 2011

I had a great time yesterday at The LOOK Magazine fashion show, once I fought my way through the crowds at Westfield Stratford City – seriously I’ve never seen so many people in one place!

We were greeted with champagne and a fabulous goodie bag (more on that later) I met some fellow bloggers and industry insiders, which was fab The show itself was a great display of the wonderful British highstreet, as for the beauty it was all polished skin, chizzelled cheeks, bright and bold lips and backcombed hair – 4 of my favourite trends. Sarah Harding modelled, Dionne Bromfield performed and Alicia Dixon, Kelis and Kimberly Wyatt watched on from the front row.

Now for the pics…

Sarah Harding opened the show

Dionne Bromfield rocked the show and looked great – can you believe she’s just 16!

Something for the Weekend… Free Delivery from MAC

If you don’t have a MAC in your town or you just can’t be bothered trapsing to the shops on this dull, wet weekend, then this might interest you.

London Fashion Week kicks off this weekend don’t you know and to mark the occasion MAC (LFW’s official sponsor) is offering a Fashion Week Treat in the form of FREE delivery.

There’s no minimum spend and it’s available until  midnight on 21st September – whatsmore there’s no stupid code, just click on and start shopping.

In case you’re interested my next purchases from MAC will be a vital repurchase of the Creme d’nude Lipstick, which has nearly ran out and the face wipes, which are expensive but magically remove every trace of make up and leave my skin so, so soft.

Kate Moss Lipstick Collection for Rimmel

The wait is over! Mossy’s lipticks have hit the highstreet and are going down a storm.

Shades 1,2,3,4,5,8,12

The packaging is seriously sleek and sexy – matt black casing embossed with Kate’s signature. Available in seven rocking shades, including – as many predicted a bright red, as well as shocking pink and a muted nude. The formula is creamy and moisturising, the colours are quite opaque and the finish I’d describe as satin.

For me the stand out shades are are 1 – the classic Red, 2 the fushia Pink and 4 the Gothic, and oh so on trend deep purple.

In Boots stores now £5.45. If you’re unable to choose just one shade, why not take advantage of Boots’ current 3 for 2 promotion.

Beauty Icons Part Deux

Joining Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, Brigitte Bardot and Vivienne Leigh in my beauty hall of fame…

Cindy Crawford

Hands up if you used draw on a fake beauty spot (with black eye liner) ala Cindy Crawford? Who didn’t! The most super of the supers, Cindy owned the catwalk in the 90s – long before zero was a size and super models had to look like young boys. Ok, we might have moved on from brown lip pencil, but other than that Cindy’s look is timeless, and I’m still trying to copy those brows!

Jenifer Lopez

If I could raid just one persons’ make up bag, it would by Jenifer’s. I love her ever evolving beauty – from her signature look –  bronzed skin and nude lips, to her glam 50s pin up look – J-lo’s got it going on in the beauty department. She gives me serious hair envy to boot!

Beyonce

Last, but by no means least, my girl crush numbero uno – Miss Beyonce Knowles. Words don’t do her justice, so I’ll let the pictures do the talking…. Uh oh, Uh oh, Uh oh…Uh oh, Uh oh, Uh oh… you ready?

Check out my other Beauty Icons and let me know who your are!

Nars Turkish Delight Lipgloss, not so delightful?

I’m prepared for some serious backlash when I say this… but I’m starting to think that Nars products are seriously over rated!!?!? I thought this after I bought the Laguna Bronzer (and it crumbled to bits after two minutes), I especially thought it when I got their world famous ORGASM blusher and now I’ve branched out to their lip glosses, I KNOW IT! I’m not saying that they aren’t good, I’m just saying they’re hyped to hell and don’t live up to my expectations.

Like the Laguna Bronzer and Orgasm blusher, Turkish Delight lipgloss is another of their “It” products with a celeb and cult following – Apparently a favourite of Kim Kardashian. Like Kim I LOVE pretty pink and nude lips, so I expected this to tick all the boxes.

The colour I love. It’s a milky, baby pink – more like candy floss than Turkish delight.

It’s well pigmented but it’s semi-sheer, meaning you have to apply quite a lot if you want to achieve the bottle colour. I think it’s best teamed with a pale lipstick like Mac’s Angel.  It’s very comfortable to wear, not at all sticky, but my main gripe with this product is its lack of staying power. It lasts two minutes – you find yourself having to reapply frequently. Oh and it doesn’t smell too good.

I know it sounds like I’m complaining for the sake of it, I do like the lipgloss – it’s a great colour, but at this price point (UK retail price £18) it could do better, correction SHOULD do better. I’ll enjoy wearing it, but there’ll be no repeat purchase.

I find it’s quite similar to Revlon’s Super Lustrous Lipgloss in Peach Petal which I love. It has a similar creamy texute and milky finish, but lasts longer and is a snip at £6.99.

Something for the Weekend… a £1 lipstick

Get on trend, celebrity approved lips (a la Jameela Jamil and Jenifer Hudson)  for just £1!

I’m all about the bargains. Yes, I do love my premium brands, but can’t resist a good buy and this is certainly a good one. Not only that, BOLD LIPS is one of the season’s hottest trends.

In case you’re not familiar, Superdrug launched it’s MUA (Makeup Academy) range earlier this year, offering products at a credit crunch friendly £1! With everything from eyeshadows to blushers, their products are surprisingly good value and their colours are gorgeously bright.

I picked up one of their lipsticks in (the unimaginatively) named Shade 3. What it lacks in name, it makes up in the colour department. Hot lips were huge on the Spring/Summer 2011 catwalks. Hot pink, neon pink, fushia pink –  any pink as long as it’s bright! I’m happy to report that “Shade 3” fits perfectly into that trend. It’s bright, longlasting and gorgeous. If I was to compare the colour to a Mac lipstick, it would fall somewhere between “Girl about town” and “Lickable” – a bright hot pink, verging towards a fushia.

Pictured here with the flash…

and without

It’s easy to apply, comfortable to wear and long lasting. They texture is very nice and not at all drying. The finish I’d describe as satiney. For £1, there’s got to be a downside??? Well, yes, but just a small one…. It stains – but hey, you don’t need to reapply it very often and it does wash off.

New Beauty Crush: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

Girl of the moment Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, my new beauty, style and general all round girl crush.

When it comes to make up, Rosie knows what suits her and sticks to it – I love the simplicity of her make up. Her signature look centres around sultry smokey eyes and bronzed skin. Despite having the biggest and best lips in the business, Rosie doesn’t play up to them. I’d be tempted to colour in that pout all kinds of fuchsias and reds, but she keeps it simple with hues of nude and browny-pinks.

Here’s how to create the look.

Base

Her base is glowing and dewy. I’d imagine she starts off with a luminous primer like Clarin’s beauty flash balm then adds a subtle base colour, something like Chanel’s Vitalumiere Aqua foundation. With that flawless skin, I doubt she needs concealer, but a couple clicks of a highlighter or under eye concealer like YSL’s touché éclat will correct any dull areas – I think there’s evidence of some in the inner eye area – which works great to open and brighten the eye.

Cheeks

Not one for bright blushers, Rosie opts for bronzer and highlighter instead. Either she’s blessed with the most amazing cheekbones EVER or there’s some clever contouring going on here – I choose to believe it’s the later. Take a multi toned bronzing powder, something like Guerlain’s Terracota Four Seasons and contour the natural lines around your cheeks, forehead and chin. A dab of liquid highlighter on the top of cheek bones would accentuate the tan and draw attention to the chizzled features. Finish with a light dusting of a peachy/pink powder blush to add a touch of colour to apples of the cheeks.

Eyes

Brows are full and combed slightly upwards, which I love. For the smokey eye Rosie opt for gold and bronzey brown eye shadows rather than the standard black and greys. An eye quad or a palette would work best to mix and match for the shade that suits. I have a great one by Frontcover that contains some gorgeous bronzey hues. The intensity of the smokey eye varies – smudge shadow along the lid and up to the crease, if you’re feeling adventurous, take it higher up to the brow bone. Smudge some shimmery brown or bronze under the lower lash line and in the inner eye. Work in a brown or black eye liner.

For some added va-va-voom, a small kitten flick created with a gel or liquid liner looks very sexy. Finish with lashings of mascara.

Lips

Let’s face it, lips like that don’t need much dressing up. A smudge of Vaseline and they’re good to go! They’re generally kept natural, I really don’t think she wears much lipstick – maybe just a hint of sheer colour, something like a nude or dirty rose. She’s more a lipbalm kinda girl.
